The Little Egret has only lately become a familiar sight in the UK and can now be found along the south coast and in East Anglia (where the artist Sue Welfare is based). It eats mostly fish, though amphibians, small reptiles, mammals and birds as well as crustaceans, molluscs and insects should all be vigilant when this bird is at large.

Guinea fowl were introduced to the UK as pest terminators! They love nothing better than to feast on ticks, beetles and caterpillars making them a favourite with farmers. They’re also pretty noisy – their loud, harsh squawks when alarmed are prized where other gamebirds are being reared and they’re particularly useful at keeping pheasants on the straight and narrow! We love them for their camouflage and colouring, captured beautifully on this placemat by the artist.
