The Yellow Wagtail Mug by Madeleine Floyd features this much loved bird in an exquisite water colour drawing.
The yellow wagtail, rarer than its pied (ie black and white) relative, is a ground nesting bird. Its nest is a toasty affair – grass on the outside and hair, wool or fur on the inside! The birds overwinter in Africa, arriving back in Britain in the spring where they are often to be seen feeding around the feet of cattle and other grazing livestock.
The call is captured in lettering around the bottom of the mug, and if egg-spotting’s your thing, there’s an illustration of a delicately coloured egg on the other side of the mug!
