The Long Eared Owl Mug by Madeleine Floyd depicts the owl in exquisite water colour.
Named for the feather tufts which resemble mammalian ears, the Long Eared Owl is a UK native. It raises its “ear” tufts when alarmed, which in turn may alarm any creature which spies it! With beautiful orange eyes and dark brown feathers, the bird is excellently camouflaged particularly when in woodland, and is therefore harder to spot than other resident species of owls.
On the reverse of the mug is a delicate line drawing of a baby Long Eared Owlet in flight (or free fall!), and inside the rim a tiny feather.
