Though known for its lilting and beautiful song, the Nightingale is rarely seen, not least as it nests close to the ground in dense undergrowth. The nightingale’s brain accounts for its vast vocal repertoire – the part of the brain responsible for producing sound is much larger in the nightingale than in other vocal competitors. This allows him to produce up to 1,000 different sounds! The skylark and blackbird come a poor second and third to with just 340 and 100 noises to their names, respectively.
