Japanese Quince Greetings Card

£2.75

Japanese Quince Greetings Card

The Japanese Quince with its red flowers, spiny branches and glossy, oval, dark green leaves is a glad sight for gardeners in Spring as it brings a splash of colour to the garden.  It is also greatly welcomed by bees as it flowers earlier than most pollen- and nectar-bearing plants and thus is a source of food at a time of relative scarcity.  As well as its Spring blossoms it bears apple-like fruit from November to January.

Designed by the highly skilled artist Stephen Lennon, the Japanese Quince greetings card is part of his Everyday Botanicals range.  Like all Stephen’s designs it started as a drawing, such an accurate one that we are pretty sure those are white-tailed bumble bees depicted on the quince blossoms!  His cards are printed locally (he’s a Yorkshireman in exile, now to be found in Northumberland) and the production of them supports many small businesses.

Dimensions square (14cm x 14cm) • FSC accredited carbon offset high white board • Blank inside • White envelope • Biodegradable compostable cellophane wrapped • Standard Letter Post

Globe Thistle Greetings Card

Globe Thistle Greetings Card

The Globe Thistle is an ornamental plant which gives great structure to deep borders.  Tolerant of poor soil and windy conditions, it prefers full sun and is ideally suited to gravel gardens and coastal areas. One of the plant’s common names which might raise a smile is ‘blue hedgehog’!

Designed by the highly skilled artist Stephen Lennon, the Globe Thistle greetings card is part of his Everyday Botanicals range.  Like all Stephen’s designs it started as a drawing inspired and informed by his considerable botanical knowledge honed as a nurseryman.  His cards are printed locally (he’s a Yorkshireman in exile, now to be found in Northumberland) and the production of them supports many small businesses.

Great White Egret Greetings Card

£2.75

Great White Egret Greetings Card

The Great White Egret is a relatively recent resident in the UK and is the largest of the three egret species which can now be found here.  Similar in size to the Heron, it has black feet and legs (distinguishing it from the Little Egret).  Like the Heron, the Great White Egret stalks its prey patiently, standing still for long periods, which makes it easy to spot.

Designed by the highly skilled artist Stephen Lennon, the Great White Egret greetings card is part of his Wildfowl and Wetland Birds range.  All Stephen’s designs start as a drawing, often from life.  His cards are printed locally (he’s a Yorkshireman in exile, now to be found in Northumberland) and the production of them supports many small businesses.

Kingfisher Greetings Card

£2.75

Kingfisher Greetings Card

The Kingfisher which is so recognisable by its azure and copper plumage is one of the most popular British river birds.  It eats small fish, stunning them on a branch before wolfing them down, head-first.  When feeding a brood, both kingfisher parents will be particularly busy as each chick can eat up to 18 fish per day!  Kingfishers live in self-excavated burrows which though only 5cm in diameter may be well over a metre deep!

Designed by the highly skilled artist Stephen Lennon, the Kingfisher greetings card is part of his Wildfowl and Wetland Birds range.  All Stephen’s designs start as a drawing, often from life.  His cards are printed locally (he’s a Yorkshireman in exile, now to be found in Northumberland) and the production of them supports many small businesses.

Coot in Reeds Greetings Card

£2.75

Coot in Reeds Greetings Card

The Coot is identifiable by its distinctive white beak and ‘shield’ against the rest of its body which is all black.  That beak and shield have earned it the title ‘bald’ (as in “bald as a coot”).  Its feet appear webbed due to flaps of skin on the toes and they seem disproportionate to its body, as shown in this illustration.  It is a messy nester and can be aggressive towards other birds.

Designed by the highly skilled artist Stephen Lennon, the Coot in Reeds greetings card is part of his Wildfowl and Wetland Birds range.  All Stephen’s designs start as a drawing, often from life.  His cards are printed locally (he’s a Yorkshireman in exile, now to be found in Northumberland) and the production of them supports many small businesses.

Mute Swan and Reeds Greetings Card

£2.75

Mute Swan and Reeds Greetings Card

The Mute Swan is the largest of the UK swans, and gets its name from its relatively unheard voice (compared to its noisy relative, the Whooper Swan which is named for its in-flight call).  Its graceful S-shaped neck and distinctive orange and black bill and bump ensure that it rarely goes unnoticed.

Designed by the highly skilled artist Stephen Lennon, the Mute Swan and Reeds greetings card is part of his Wildfowl and Wetland Birds range.  All Stephen’s designs start as a drawing, often from life.  His cards are printed locally (he’s a Yorkshireman in exile, now to be found in Northumberland) and the production of them supports many small businesses.

Ringed plovers are something of a challenge to those of us at Bee Eater HQ who were not brought up near water, but we’re getting better at picking them out by their distinctive facial plumage – as shown in this exquisite Robert Gillmor design.  There’s something Zoro-like about a bird which appears to be wearing a mask!

Robert Gillmor – Preening Stilts Cushion by We Love Cushions

£33.49

This beautiful single-sided Preening Stilts cushion is based on Robert Gillmor’s iconic artwork, and would fit well in a garden-room, sitting-room or bedroom.

Stilts are members of the same bird family as Avocets, and the similarities are clear – length of leg and the distinctive black and white of the plumage.  However, the Stilt wins hearts with its spectacular pinky red legs.  It has the longest leg, proportionate to body size, of any bird – they’re around 60% of its height.  This gives them an advantage in the foraging stakes as they can wade out into deeper water than other birds, in a quest for insects which they pick from the surface of the water.

An ideal house-warming gift for young and old alike.

Dimensions: 45 x 45cm • 100% Cotton/Linen Cover • Machine Washable • Removable Fibre Pad

Robert Gillmor – Spoonbill Pair Cushion by We Love Cushions

Though hunted to near extinction in the UK, for both their feathers and their meat, Spoonbills are making a surprise comeback with protection of wetlands by farmers and conservationists.  The pair featured here are obviously ready for love, as the vibrant yellow on chest and bill appears only during the breeding season.

An ideal house-warming gift for young and old alike.

Dimensions: 45 x 45cm • 100% Cotton/Linen Cover • Machine Washable • Removable Fibre Pad
