Christmas Robin Mug by Madeleine Floyd

£13.95

The Christmas Robin Mug by Madeleine Floyd features this cheerful songbird in an exquisite water colour drawing, wearing a festive party hat, with a tiny sprig of seasonal mistletoeberries in his beak, on the back of the mug and inside the lip of the mug.

The robin is one of the UK’s most well-loved garden birds and is considered by some to be our national bird.  Whilst most survive barely more than a year, the oldest robin clocked up 19 years!  The last to bed and the first to rise, the robin is a year round companion to gardeners and tolerates humans more readily than most garden birds.

This little bird’s song is as distinctive as his colours, and is at its strongest in winter in order to defend territory and attract the attentions of a mate.

The Christmas Robin mug by Madeleine Floyd makes an ideal gift for Christmas (obvs!), birthdays, house-warming and other occasions.

Black Grouse Mug by Madeleine Floyd

£13.95

The Black Grouse Mug by Madeleine Floyd features this stylish black moorland bird the male of which is best known for its mating display – which involves fanning its lyre-shaped tail – known as “lekking”.  Males will gather at traditional sites and display to show dominance over each other .  The females watch from a safe distance, hidden in the surrounding vegetation, before making their choice.   They lay between six and eleven eggs in May in a carefully concealed, moss-lined scrape in the ground; the chicks are independent after about three months.

Five Jenny Wren Mug by Madeleine Floyd

£13.95

The Five Jenny Wren Mug by Madeleine Floyd features this much loved garden bird five times over, in an exquisite water colour drawing.

Weighing under 10g, the wren is a truly tiny troglodyte (this is its Latin name, meaning cave-dweller).   Hard to spot due to its size, hedge-coloured plumage and rapid darting movements, the wren’s flicking tail is often the visual cue that alerts us to its presence.

More often heard than seen, the Wren has a call the volume of which belies its diminutive size, and this is captured in lettering on the mug.   And if egg-spotting’s your thing, there’s an illustration of a delicately coloured egg on the other side of the mug!
