On the endangered species list since 2015, puffins mate for life but take a break from each other over Winter before reuniting at their breeding grounds in Spring (let’s just hope it’s not too Auk-ward when they meet…). The shag’s name may refer to the shaggy crest some species have on their heads. It is closely related to the cormorant and both are normally spotted with wings outspread to dry, after deep sea diving.

Light Sussex Mug by Madeleine Floyd
£12.95The Light Sussex Mug by Madeleine Floyd depicts one of Britain’s oldest chicken breeds in the light colour variation with his distinctive angled tail.
The Light Sussex, along with the Rhode Island Red, was bred for the table and for laying. It is believed to date back tothe time of the Roman invasion. It comes in eight colour variations; the light has a white body with a black tail and black wing tips. Its neck is white, striped with black and has a very striking appearance. The feathers around the neck are called hackle feathers and each one is black with a fine white lace around the edge.
On the reverse side of the mug is a single, creamy, light brown-coloured egg making this a perfect mug for your morning or breakfast cuppa!

It is thought that Japanese Bantams first arrived in Japan from China in the early 1600s when they started to appear in Japanese paintings, and that they reached the UK in the 1860s. The first Japanese Bantam Club was formed at the Crystal Palace (London) show on 12th November 1912.

Welsummers are a Dutch breed of chicken and were introduced to the UK in the early twentieth century. According to breeders they have a friendly and intelligent temperament, and they lay around 160 eggs a year, which is no doubt why they are something of a national favourite.
