This beautiful Stonechat linocut print by Katie Fuller shows the bird perched on a dried thistle, with cow parsley silhouetted behind. The stonechat’s orange-red breast glows against a pale turquoise background. One of a limited edition of only 12, the print is numbered and signed by the artist.
The stonechat gets his name from his distinctive call – it sounds like two stones being struck together. A heath, bog and conifer tree dweller, the stonechat feeds almost exclusively from insects on the ground, a rare distinction in the avian world.

The Great White Egret, though previously classed as a rare bird, has been removed from the red list as there are now several breeding pairs in the UK. Similar to the Heron though with black feet rather than yellow, the Great White Egret loves wetland and will even settle for a boggy field ditch!
