This little wading bird’s name describes its foraging habits – turning over stones to find mostly invertebrates (insects, crustaceans, molluscs and worms).  It is a great migrator, and though it doesn’t breed in the UK, can be seen around our shores at most times of the year, travelling from Canada, Greenland and parts of Northern Europe.
