The Tawny Owl Mug by Madeleine Floyd depicts the owl in exquisite water colour.
The owl’s dark eyes indicate that he hunts by night. A bit of an omnivore, the Tawny Owl will eat a range of small mammals and rodents as well as small birds, frogs, fish, insects and worms. Their familiar call – Twit Twoo – is actually the combined conversation of a male and a female. If you hear a truncated call, it may well be a youngster, establishing his own territory for the first time!
Although there are an estimated 50,000 pairs of Tawny Owls in the UK, they are now on the Amber list due to concerns about long term decline.
On the reverse of the mug is a delicate line drawing of the Tawny Owl in flight, and inside the rim a tiny feather.
