Nuthatch Mug by Madeleine Floyd

The Nuthatch Mug by Madeleine Floyd features this lesser known garden bird in an exquisite water colour drawing.

The blue-grey, white and chestnut-coloured nuthatch is an avian acrobat, able to descend head-first and hang upside down beneath twigs and branches.  Nuthatches will sometimes plaster mud around the entrance of their nesting hole, which makes it smaller and less accessible to competitors and predators.  It also gives them their alternative name of mud dabbler or mud stopper!

This little bird’s song is captured in lettering around the base of the mug, a loud, piping call.   And if egg-spotting’s your thing, there’s an illustration of a delicately coloured egg – creamy with reddish brown – on the other side of the mug!
