The Kingfisher which is so recognisable by its azure and copper plumage is one of the most popular British river birds. It eats small fish, stunning them on a branch before wolfing them down, head-first. When feeding a brood, both kingfisher parents will be particularly busy as each chick can eat up to 18 fish per day! Kingfishers live in self-excavated burrows which though only 5cm in diameter may be well over a metre deep!
Designed by the highly skilled artist Stephen Lennon, the Kingfisher greetings card is part of his Wildfowl and Wetland Birds range. All Stephen’s designs start as a drawing, often from life. His cards are printed locally (he’s a Yorkshireman in exile, now to be found in Northumberland) and the production of them supports many small businesses.
