This beautiful Oystercatcher chopping board features artist Sandra Vick’s black and white design of oystercatchers. Although depicted here in monochrome, oystercatchers’ smart black and white plumage is set off by bright orangey red legs and bills. Its call evokes mysterious moorland, and its wingspan is an impressive 30-odd inches!
The Oystercatcher chopping board is made of melamine and shows the oystercatcher design on one side and a wood effect on the reverse which is the chopping surface. Part of Sandra’s ‘names’ collection, on its decorative side this chopping board includes the Oystercatcher’s latin name – Haematopus ostralegus – as well as the many other monikers by which it is known!

A pair of Oystercatchers synchronises wing beats as they head across the meadow with the clifftop lighthouse of Hunstanton behind them. With their white wing-stripes, white rumps, orange bills, and pink legs and feet, these coastal residents are easily distinguished. They can also be seen in large numbers on estuaries during winter. Designed by the highly skilled print maker and textile designer Kate Heiss, the Cliff Lighthouse greetings card is inspired by the beautiful Norfolk coastline.
The artwork has been created using lino cut printing and heavy debossing (imprinted shapes) on board sourced from one of the oldest paper mills in the country, in the Lake District.
