The Seabirds Guillemot Mug by Madeleine Floyd features this stylish black (actually brown) and white seabird alongside three of his other sea-going companions and some aquatic plantlife in an exquisite water colour drawing.

The Guillemot’s three companions, the Herring Gull, Gannet and Arctic Skua are all on the conservation list and need protection.  The Guillemot however can be seen in significant numbers on steep coastal cliffs though it comes only to nest, spending the rest of its life at sea.  It has been something of a favourite here at Bee Eater HQ ever since we heard John Hegley’s irresistible poem, I am a Guillemot.  Check it out on YouTube (other video sharing platforms are available).
