The Arctic Puffin, one of only four puffin species in the world, is a UK resident. Burdened by a long Latin name – Fratercula arctica – this diminutive, well-loved bird mates for life, but temporarily loses both his distinctive colourful beak and his wing feathers once the mating season is over!
